Last week was the 2014 American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Annual Meeting held in sunny Orlando, Florida. Thousands of physicians, researchers, students, clinicians and coaches from all over the world were in attendance. Lectures from some of the worlds best and brightest in Sports Medicine took place at the Orange County Convention Center. In addition to the educational component of the conference, the exhibition hall was packed with innovative companies showcasing their latest products and technology.

We are very happy to report that NASE was well represented at the ACSM Annual Meeting, marking our first appearance at a national conference. It was our pleasure to meet and speak with thousands of attendees. We spoke with educators, athletes, students, coaches, trainers, sport scientists and physical therapists from all over the world, including Japan, Canada, Finland, England, Australia and of course plenty of friendly fellow Americans.

In conversing with the many conference attendee’s we have been reassured of our scope and mission in the sports performance field. Many felt that specific detail on speed and explosiveness development is lacking, particularly at the college level. Unfortunately, many Exercise Science based programs do not offer classes that cover in detail the specific areas of athletic performance enhancement. This is a big reason why NASE was started. To offer coaches a resource of practical and evidence-based information that can be immediately applied in the field. We are very grateful for the opportunity to have met those of you who were in attendance and look forward doing this again at future conferences.
