Speed Certification Clinic Staff

Dan Austin, Strength, Speed and Conditioning Coach at the University of South Carolina

Coach Austin is a nine-time World Power lifting Champion. He also won national power lifting titles 13 times, and is a world-record holder in the dead lift. At a body weight of only 165 pounds, he dead lifted 744 pounds. Coach Austin is an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for football at the University of South Carolina and also works with the soccer and golf teams. He is an outstanding coach and a leading expert on the techniques of developing foundation and core training and improving ground contact force and speed in short sprints for football and other sports.

Jeff Howser, Assistant Sports Performance Coach, Duke University

Former ACC champion and All-America Jeff Howser is in his 11th season as Duke’s speed and conditioning coach. He is the head strength coach for Women’s Lacrosse, Field Hockey and the Men’s Distance program, and designs and implements the speed, agility and conditioning programs for Men’s Lacrosse, Women’s Soccer, Women’s Tennis and Volleyball. Howser was a six-time ACC champion at Duke, and was named one of the ACC’s top 50 track athletes of all-time in 2003. He earned a bronze medal at the World Championships in the 110-meter high hurdles and was an alternate on the U.S. Olympic Team. Howser also ran on the international level for 14 years, was a fourtime U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier and two-time U.S. Olympic Trials finalist. Coach Howser served as the sprints and hurdles coach at the University of Florida, UCLA, N.C. State, Duke and the University of North Carolina. He also coached numerous top-world ranked professional track athletes. In addition, one his athletes ran the fastest high school electronic 40yd dash ever recorded (4.25 electronic at the Nike SPARQ Combine), which is also the second fastest time in history. He holds certifications from the NSCA, the USA Weightlifting Association, is the North Carolina Director for the National Association of Speed and Explosion, and a USA Track and Field Elite Athlete Coach.

Michael Srock, Speed, Strength and Conditioning Coach, Byrnes H. S., Duncan, SC

Coach Srock is one of the most successful High School Speed, Strength and Conditioning Coaches in the US. During his 18 years at Byrnes High School, his teams have won the SC 4-AAAA Football Championship 8 times in the past 16 seasons with an over-all record of 204 – 36. Srock is a Level II Certified Specialist in Speed and Explosion with the NASE and serves on the NASE Certification Board. He is a National Coach with USA Weightlifting, a Bronze Level Coach with USA Wrestling, a certified Tsunami Bar Instructor, a certified Kettle Bell Instructor and a certified SPARQ Trainer with NIKE Srock served as a Region Director with the SC High School Strength Coaches Association from 1999-2014 and President of the same organization from 2008-2011. He was selected the SC Strength Coach of the year in 2001 and 2007, as well as, the Assistant Coach of the Year in 2016 and inducted into the SC High School Strength Coaches Hall of Fame in 2017. He has served on the Board of Directors for the SC Athletic Coaches Association for the past 7 years. He was the USA Weightlifting East Coast Gold Satellite Center Coach of the Year in 2000 and the ECG Coach of the Year in 2001.
